The Rewe Group has announced that they will stop the rollout of RFID in its distribution centers – A surprising turnaround in the RFID strategy. Instead, Rewe will focus on the internal application of new technology for tracking their owned reusable crates and containers.
“The use of RFID on pallets and packaging/transport packaging doesn’t pay off today,” says Frank Wiemer, board member of the Rewe Group. He added: “This is not the end for RFID,” but from his perspective Rewe wants to concentrate more on the internal use of reusable crates and containers in the future.
